Maunaloa Elementary School is located on the island of Molokai, in a sparsely populated town on the westernmost region of the island. The island’s principal town, Kaunakakai is approximately 17 miles southeast of Maunaloa. Maunaloa School is one of four rural elementary schools serving Preschool through 6th grade. The school was established in 1936 with the first classroom building built in 1937 on a ten-acre parcel.

Aloha Maunaloa School Students, Parents, and Community,
Welcome to a new but exciting 2024-2025 School Year! My name is Kimberly Ka’ai, and it is my honor
and privilege to work alongside all of you as the Principal of Maunaloa Elementary School.
For those who have not met me yet, I would like to share a little about myself. I was born and raised on Molokai, where I attended Kaunakakai Elementary and am a proud graduate of Molokai High and
Intermediate School. I have been in education for over 20 years and have served in different capacities, from Title 1 Resource Teacher to Classroom Teacher, Data Coach, and currently Administration.
As an administrator, my mission is to support, inspire, and challenge everyone in our school ʻohana to encourage our students to discover and pursue their fullest potential. I am deeply committed to creating a positive learning environment where students feel valued and safe. Our highly qualified teachers are not just conveyors of knowledge but facilitators who guide students to become critical thinkers and problem solvers. Our culture is one that embraces continuous school improvement through data-driven decision-making, and above all, we are unwaveringly student-centered. Our commitment to education is not about what’s best for us, but what’s best for our students.
As we eagerly await the new school year, I, along with the entire Maunaloa School staff, extend a warm
Aloha to our returning students and a heartfelt welcome to our new ones! This school year brings about
exciting change, and we are thrilled to introduce our very first PreKindergarten program and welcome a
new school counselor to our campus. These new programs are a testament to our dedication to providing
the best learning environment for our students.
